To the Bravest of the Brave
by Steve 'Smudge' Smith, December 2003
Oh fragile vessels
Where are thee
Restful and peaceful
In the South Atlantic sea
Quiet and still
A complete smooth sea
Sometimes my friends
I envy thee...
Peace and calm
How still you life
I think of you always
And can't help but cry
One day I shall return
And visit your grave
I shall stand and salute
To the bravest of the brave
Steve 'Smudge' Smith served during the Falklands
Conflict in 1982 with 9 Para Royal Engineers. In December 2003,
along with his friend Barry Ian Anges, who was with 656 Army Air Corps
during the Conflict, Steve visited the Falkland Islands in an effort to
come to terms with his experiences in 1982. During their stay in
the Islands Steve and Barry visited San Carlos, Fitzroy and Mount
Pleasant Peak, completed a battlefield tour, and attended the Battle Day
Parade.
