Mission - Overview - Departments - Islands Plan - Constitutional Review - FIDC - FLH - FCO - Relationship with UK THE FALKLAND ISLANDS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION The Falkland Islands Development Corporation commenced operations in August 1984, fulfilling one of the key recommendations of the Shackleton Report. It is a statutory corporation incorporated under the provisions of the Falkland Islands Development Corporation Ordinance as amended and managed by the Falkland Islands Development Board. The functions of the Corporation are to:- The Corporation is not permitted to do anything which it knows to be contrary to any policy or political directive decided upon by the Executive Council [of Government]. The Falkland Islands Development Board consists of:- The Financial Secretary of the Falkland Islands Government (or his representative) and the Financial Controller of the Corporation may attend meetings of the Board and may speak to any matter before the Board but may not vote. The Board shall in relation to the performance of the duties of the Corporation regularly consult the Rural Business Association and the Falkland Islands Chamber of Commerce or panels of their members, formed for the purpose.
