On The Opening of Mount Pleasant
Airport by H.R.H. Prince Andrew

by Des Peck

This is the Falkland Islands calling,
So I hope you're all tuned in:
Mount Pleasant Airport is now open,
And our future is about to begin.

Although we have been very isolated
From the Mother Country many years,
We will be now closely connected,
And all obstacles should disappear.

So the Falkland Islands now leap forward.
Great interest has been shown at last;
And now with this Airport being open,
Development should grow - and fast!

So we are linked with the Mother Country,
Ten times better than ever before:
Only sixteen hours now divides us,
So we are almost at your door.

We extend greetings to all friendly people
Wherever you may happen to be;
That's why Prince Andrew opened the Airport,
And we welcome you all, most heartily.

With new industries developing daily,
And making good progress, you see,
We will pay our way as always,
But we are certainly no liability.

It's an honour to have Prince Andrew here with us
And to open the Falkland Islands Airport with skill.
We are noted for being friendly people,
And we hope you join us in Peace and Goodwill.
