The Falkland Islands

by Lynn New

A land born of climate
And history's tale
Dictated by nature
Discovered by sail
Born of the ocean
Worn by the sea
Scourged by the wind
Calling the free

Home of the penguin
The dolphin and seal
The surfacing whale
It's secrets reveal
The air unpolluted
The view undefiled
These islands hold welcome
Though storm swept and wild.

Her lands marked by battle
Fought for and freed
A future secured
For islanders need
Witness the magic
Share in their fame
The Falklands are worthy
Of their island name
