Register as a Volunteer with Falklands Conservation

Falklands Conservation is updating its register of volunteers and is inviting new people to join. Over the years volunteers have played an important role in helping the charity to protect the unique wildlife of the Falkland Islands.

Amanda Morris of Falklands Conservation says many of the organisation's projects "would simply not be possible" without the support of its dedicated volunteers. "We are interested in hearing from people from all walks of life. You may have a special skill or just simply be willing to lend a hand. Whatever your interests, get in touch, we may have just the project for you."

Falklands Conservation volunteers are involved in a wide range of activities which include such diverse activities as rat eradication work, invasive plant projects, leading Watch Group activities, penguin surveys, office based projects, assisting with fundraising events, guided bird walks and much more.

In 2004 the charity introduced a volunteer register to make it easier to identify willing volunteers when the need arises. Mrs Morris explained, "The register also helps us identify the types of projects volunteers are interested in, any specific skills or interests you may have, when you are available to help and importantly up-to-date contact details. This information helps to make the process of recruiting volunteers more efficient and in turn makes sure that everyone who is interested in volunteering has a formal route through which to register their interest."

Anyone who thinks they would be interested in being included in the register can complete a volunteer registration form, which can be obtained from the Falklands Conservation office at the Jetty Centre, Stanley or by calling 22247. Existing volunteers who have not yet completed a registration form are also asked to do so. All completed forms should be returned to Falklands Conservation.

Mrs Morris said Falklands Conservation is grateful to., "…. everyone who has supported the charity in the past, and we look forward to hearing from existing and new volunteers alike."
