Welcome to our Spectacular Islands!

If you are calling in to Stanley or one of the outer islands for but a few short hours on a visiting cruise ship, or if you have already made the choice to stay with us for a while, then an amazing encounter awaits you as you immerse yourself in the unique experience that is the Falklands.

As a day visitor, your first port of call should be the Jetty Visitor Centre at the head of the public jetty, where our friendly Tourist Board team can help you to get the most from your visit. Here you will find a very warm welcome and a wealth of information - Street Maps, Shopping and Eating Out Guides, details of Island-wide accommodation, Tour Guides, and much more.

The Jetty Visitor Centre has public amenities such as internet access, rest rooms, public telephone and seating and our knowledgeable staff will be able to answer any questions or queries you may have. Here you will also find a range of products on display, in particular Falkland craft items, Falklands Conservation clothing, Stanley Golf Club collector polo shirts and an informative range of books.

Stanley, the southern-most capital in the world, with its colourful houses and charming cathedral, has much to offer the visitor and if you decide to spend your day exclusively around our compact city, you will find everything is just a stone's throw away. There is a diverse range of shops all within a short walking distance of the public jetty, each one offering a fascinating range of goods for you to choose from.

To learn more about the Falklands' colourful and exciting maritime history and to see how life has changed in these remote islands over recent times, a leisurely visit around our intriguing museum, packed with artefacts and fascinating memorabilia, is a must.

On a day visit to Stanley, you can partake in a number of activities and have a truly memorable time - an excursion in or around the city or further afield may be the order of the day, perhaps taking in a trip to the picturesque Gypsy Cove area, just a few minutes drive outside Stanley and home to a colony of magellanic penguins.

If the natural world is more appealing to you than the city life, you will have a ball! The Falkland Islands are famed for their wildlife, and even in a few short hours around the capital, you will have an opportunity to experience some of this first hand, especially our wonderful birdlife. Upland geese strut along the grassy areas and pathways of Stanley. Looking skyward, you may see the largest and most common bird of prey, the dramatic looking turkey vulture, usually found perching high in the trees that surround the cathedral. Along the harbour wall you will see southern giant petrels - the large birds that glide effortlessly, often overtaking the traffic.

And there's more birdlife to see along the water's edge too - look out for the charismatic Falkland flightless steamer duck, or the black-crowned night herons, kelp geese and rock cormorants. Along the harbour you may also catch sight of dolphins playing near the water's edge, or perhaps a seal or sea lion, swimming in the shallow waters close to shore.

You may also see a nomadic penguin making an occasional visit into Stanley, providing a spectacle of charming entertainment to passers-by when these endearing little creatures often just appear along the harbour, peering at onlookers in a puzzled fashion, as if wondering how they got there.

With five species of penguins, elephant seals, black-browed albatross, striated caracara and other spectacular wildlife, it isn't just the wildlife enthusiast who will be captivated by these truly stunning Islands. The Falklands' environment is something out of the ordinary, a place where travellers can still experience the real world of nature, seclusion and the elite. It is the last talisman of freedom and a place where you can unwind and escape from the rigours of the modern world.

Through this natural experience we are quietly confident that by the time you leave you will fully understand why the Falklands Islands are the natural choice. Whether visiting for a few hours or a few weeks, we are confident that you will have a journey of a lifetime into the world that is the Falkland Islands ….. a natural kingdom, approved by nature and enjoyed by man.
